Seeking Sustainability

WeAreBio actively participates in the development of new sustainable packaging materials that aims to offer an alternative to conventional petroleum-based plastics.

We participate on several research projects under the European Funding Framework Horizon 2020, H2020. With a specific focus on the organic food sector, that has specific expectations in terms of accessing to sustainable packaging with specific food additivation and thus requiring outmost performances.

NOVEL PACKAGING FILMS AND TEXTILES WITH TAILORED END OF LIFE AND PERFORMANCE BASED ON BIO-BASED COPOLYMERS AND COATINGS

Our commitment

Since 2018 we are participating in BIOnTop research project.
“Most plastic packaging has deficient end-of-life options leading to a large burden on the environment and depletion of often-used non-renewable resources. Only 31% of plastic is currently recycled while 41% is incinerated and 27% landfilled”
The development of a new biopackaging with increased biodegradability but also with enhanced barrier properties represents a safer option. Not only for the environment, but also for the consumer, increasing the shelflife of food products.

Future Bio-Packaging

BIOnTop packaging will be compatible with a broad range of packaging applications’ requirements but also multiple end-of-life options. Our materials will be biodegradable in home composting conditions but also recyclable for multiple use secondary packaging.
